Time for Change

There’s one piece of news I read yesterday that I found truly positive and uplifting and shows me that there are people who believe now is the time for change.

Time for change

It’s the news about the Bronx schoolteacher Jamaal Bowman capturing over 60% of the vote in NYC.

Mr Bowman ran on a platform of racial justice, calling for the defunding of law enforcement, an idea seen by party moderates as too radical this election season.

This win made clear that the protests that boiled over after the tragic killing by police of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, amongst others (too many others) are making visible people’s readiness for change, people’s willingness to make amends for centuries of oppression.

  1. Thanks for sharing this positive story, Kalpana. How heartening to see results like this! Like Susan, I hope he makes inroads, he and the other underdogs who suddenly will have much more opportunity to see that justice and diversity prevail.
